Adoption Timeline

May 2009 - Start pursuing adoption through the Foster system

May 2011 - After 2 years of roadblocks with the Foster system, we prayerfully change directions towards international adoption. Our hearts are leading us to Africa.

June 1, 2011 - After LOTS of research we've narrowed our search down to Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda or Ghana

June 10, 2011 - Our friend, Julianne, recommended we take a look at Generations Adoptions out of Texas, they have a program for Uganda and Ghana.

June 16, 2011 - Telephone conference with representitive for Generations. We are MORE than excited about this agency. They give us an idea of how much money we need to start!

July 24-August 3, 2011 - Aunt Kimberly comes to help us out so I can work lots of overtime!

August 12, 2011 - MAILED APPLICATION TO GENERATIONS ADOPTIONS!

August 18, 2011 - Notified that Generations Adoptions has received our application and is reviewing it!

August 23, 2011 - Accepted into Generations' Uganda Program!

August 29, 2011 - Completed our orientation with G.A.

September 13, 2011 - Settled on our homestudy agency and sent in our application!

October 3, 2011 - Officially started our homestudy process with our first meeting out of three total.


October 17, 2011 - Second homestudy meeting out of three total.


October 21, 2011 - Fingerprinted and sent in paper work for our FBI clearances AND received our finalized criminal background checks.


October 30, 2011 - Our final Homestudy visit! Woo hoo!


December 5, 2011 - We receive our final homestudy copy in the mail!! Yay!!

December 8, 2011 - Sent in application to USCIS


December 11, 2011 - Application received by USCIS


December 18, 2011 - notified by USCIS that they have received our application and are reviewing it.


December 20, 2011 - Finally recieve our FBI clearances!! (10 1/2 weeks after submission)

December 24, 2011 - Merry Christmas! We receive our biometrics appointment from USCIS for January 17th.

December 27, 2011 - We walked in for our biometric fingerprinting... 3 full weeks before our scheduled appointment :)

January 27, 2012 - Received our I-171H (approval from Immigration) in the mail!! We are on the waitlist!!

January 30, 2012 - We are given a number. We are #5 on the sibling waitlist!

Mid-February, 2012 - We are told by our agency that our likely-hood of getting a sibling group is very very small and would potentially take up to 3 years. They recommend looking at other options, we start praying.

End of February 2012 - We amicably part ways with our adoption agency, we feel God leading us elsewhere

April 18, 2012 - Matthew travels to Uganda to visit an orphanage we have been connected with and there he meets our boys.

April 26, 2012 - We officially accept the referral of 2 little boys, age 2 1/2 and 8 months, the younger one has some significant and permanent medical needs.

June 19, 2012 - We are notified that we have a court date of July 6!!

July 3, 2012 - We arrive in Uganda and meet our boys!!

July 6, 2012 - Court date!

July 13, 2012 - We are granted legal guardianship of our sweet little guys!

July 27, 2012 - We receive the boys' passports

July 30, 2012 - Our visa appointment at the US Embassy, their visas are granted!

August 1, 2012 - We have our boys' visas in our hands!! YAY!!!

August 5, 2012 - We say goodbye to Uganda and leave as a family of 5!! For now at least ;)

December 20, 2012 - We receive our Decrees of Adoption for our boys in the mail! They are officially and forever Rougeux's and our adoption of them is FINAL!
